Where these parts are used
Bourns devices sit at the boundary between a circuit and the outside world: the inductor in the switching regulator, the varistor at the connector, the fuse on the input, the trimmer on a reference. When one of them fails the board does not always stop working — it drifts, which is harder to diagnose.

Cross-reference notes
Shielded and unshielded inductors with the same value are not equivalent in a switching supply: radiated field and saturation behaviour differ, and the substitution shows up as ripple or EMI rather than an obvious fault. For the resettable fuses, the hold current and trip time in the MF-NSMF code decide whether the part protects the circuit or nuisance-trips on inrush. Quote the full code and state the load current you expect.
