Why capacitor choice is not interchangeable
Two parts with the same capacitance and voltage are not the same component. ESR, ripple current rating, temperature life and case size all change behaviour in a switching supply, and a low-ESR part replaced by a general-purpose one will often fail early. That is why the series matters as much as the value.
Ordering notes
- Nichicon codes carry capacitance, voltage, case size and tolerance in sequence; quote the full code rather than "47 µF 50 V".
- For replacements in a power supply, tell us the switching frequency and expected ripple and we will confirm the series is suitable.

Replacing a low-impedance electrolytic with a general-purpose part of the same capacitance is the most common repair mistake in a switching supply — the substitute runs hotter and dries out early. Rated ripple current and endurance hours are stated per series for that reason. If you are matching an existing bill of materials, send the original series code and we will confirm what is on the shelf is the same family rather than a lookalike.
