Reading a Taiyo Yuden code

TMK107B7474KAHT is a good example of how much information sits in the string. TMK is the 3 V-rated X7R ceramic family — the letter after the family marks the rated voltage class. 107 is the case size, 0603 in metric. B7 is the dielectric designation for X7R. 474 is 470 nanofarads (47 followed by four zeros in picofarads). K is plus or minus ten percent, and the trailing characters carry thickness and packaging. The same value in a different voltage class has a different family letter, so reading only 474 misidentifies the part.

Inductors: two very different jobs

The NRS series are wire-wound, magnetically shielded power inductors for DC-DC conversion. 8030 gives the envelope (8.0 by 8.0 mm, 3.0 mm height) and 4R7 is 4.7 microhenry with the R acting as a decimal point. The relevant specifications are saturation current and DC resistance, and the JGJ suffix marks a tighter or differently binned variant of the same value. The HK1005 series is a completely different animal: 0402 high-frequency multilayer parts where 68N is 68 nanohenry and R12 is 0.12 microhenry, intended for impedance matching and filtering at hundreds of megahertz.
