Reading the value field
The family letters come first, then the case size, then the value. 1608 is the metric size for imperial 0603, and 2012 is imperial 0805. The value uses the compact notation common to Taiwanese passive makers: N marks nanohenry, so 22N is 22 nH and 82N is 82 nH; R marks the decimal point, so R10 is 0.10 microhenry and R18 is 0.18 microhenry; a plain three-digit value in the EBLS power series is microhenry with a multiplier, so 100 is 10 microhenry. The trailing J is plus or minus five percent and K is plus or minus ten.
Two families, two jobs
The HBLS parts are high-frequency multilayer inductors intended for impedance matching, filtering and choke duties in the hundreds of megahertz to a few gigahertz. Their useful specification is inductance at the operating frequency plus self-resonant frequency, and their current rating is small. The EBLS parts are power inductors for switching regulators, where saturation current and DC resistance are the real constraints. A 1.0 microhenry part from each family is not a substitute for the other: the power part has a much lower self-resonant frequency and the RF part will saturate under a supply current of a few hundred milliamps.

- State whether the position is an RF choke or a switching-regulator inductor.
- For RF values below 100 nH, confirm the working band so self-resonance can be checked.
