What is stocked

Serial NOR, 3 V — MX25L1606E, MX25L3233F, MX25L6406E and MX25L12835F, in SOP8 and SOP16.
Parallel NOR — MX29GA321E, MX29GA641E and MX29GA129E in BGA, 70 ns and 90 ns speed grades.

Reading an MX25L code

MX25L is the 3 V serial family; MX25U is the 1.8 V variant, and mixing them up is a supply-voltage failure rather than a performance issue. The next digits are density in megabits: MX25L12835F is 128 Mbit, MX25L6406E is 64 Mbit, MX25L3233F is 32 Mbit, MX25L1606E is 16 Mbit. The suffix then carries package, temperature and speed: M2I is SOP8 208 mil industrial, MI is SOP16, and the trailing 10G or 12G is the clock rating at 104 MHz or 80 MHz equivalent.

Why "same density" is not the same part

Serial NOR generations differ in the details that firmware depends on: the Quad Enable bit location in the status register, the dummy-cycle count required for fast reads, the erase granularity, and whether the device supports 4-byte addressing. A board that boots with one 128 Mbit part and hangs with another is usually reading with the wrong dummy cycles rather than facing a dead chip. Parallel NOR in BGA adds a second consideration: the command set is compatible across generations, but the ball map is not, so MX29GA parts are ordered by the full code, never by density alone.
