Reading TE part numbers

TE uses two numbering styles side by side, and they behave differently. The long numeric form such as 1888247-1 follows the modern AMP numbering: a base number that defines the product, then a dash suffix that carries plating, packaging or a revision. The shorter alphanumeric form such as 109914-E belongs to the older 2.0 mm header range, where the trailing letter denotes the housing variant. In both cases the base number is the interface and the suffix is the option — which is why quoting half the number is the most common reason a connector order comes back wrong.

SFP Plus, specifically

An SFP+ connector is not a passive part of the link. The 20-position edge connector carries high-speed differential pairs, so the footprint, the via stubs and the connector's own impedance all sit inside the channel's signal integrity budget. A replacement connector that looks mechanically identical but comes from a different family will often link at 1 Gbps and fail at 10 Gbps. Where these parts are being replaced on a failing line card, the cage and the connector should be checked as a pair.
